Cyrod is a fabless semiconductor company focused on the 8051 microcontroller. Cyrod acquired Ramtron’s 8051 production MCU business (formerly Goal Semiconductor) in October 2006, and now targets solutions for new designs as well as drop in replacements. Cyrod is a Canadian company with UK & European FAE support.

Cyrod’s 8051 MCUs are complemented by advanced single cycle (1T) products. These additionally offer mixtures of dual DPTR, I²C and SPI interfaces, 12-bit ADC, 16-bit counters, ICE, and up to 56-bit I/O. Custom solutions are also available for Tier 1 customers in high volume, price sensitive applications.

Complete development tools are available. The Keil IDE is used. An in-circuit adapter connects directly to PCB header pins in absence of a serial connector for the Cyrod evaluation board. Code translation and programming services may also be provided.

Egston

Egston provides wound inductive components, chargers and switched-mode power supplies, and cable systems. Manufacturing takes place at Egston’s own facilities in Eastern Europe (Czech Republic and Ukraine) and Asia (China). Egston’s R&D facilities are located in Europe.

The inductive components division specialises in ferrite-core magnetic systems. Custom parts are supplied, with full design support (not requiring manufacturing drawings) and part ownership retained by the customer. All non-standard parts are catered for; Egston also has in-house plastics experience (injection & insertion moulding, grouting) and vacuum-potting facilities. Early/ongoing cost estimates and comparisons of European/Asian production values may be provided. There is also an automotive division that has spun off and now functions independently.

The cable systems and power supplies divisions are highly specialised. Egston cables and harnesses are targeted for medium-volume projects and include high-profile construction and industrial clients. The PSU division offers standard and custom supplies and chargers (including flush-mount and exchangeable plugs), and products are approved for medical/domestic/office applications. Egston is ISO9001/TS16949/UL qualified and all products are RoHS-compliant.

Elan is a long-established Taiwanese supplier of ICs.  The main product lines are microcontrollers, communication ICs, PC peripheral ICs, consumer (speech synthesis/processing) & personal equipment ICs, and capacitive touchpad modules.

Elan’s microcontrollers target specific peripherals. Based on 4-bit and 8-bit RISC architectures, there are variants with Flash/EEPROM (GPIO and ADC) and LCD drive/control, available in both commercial and industrial grades. There are OTP and masked versions available, and Elan offers programming support.

Other Elan ICs revolve around the MCU architecture. The communication ICs include caller identification (CID), SMS, Family Radio Service (FRS), VOIP, surveillance over IP (SOIP), etc. The PC peripheral ICs include keyboard and mouse controllers, as well as USB audio and Flash controllers. The personal equipment ICs include handwriting recognition and vacuum fluorescent display (VFD) controllers.
